Event Details

The CPR Social Media Intensives help faith leaders explore "why on earth should I" and "how on earth do I" of social networking technology.

We are equipping progressive christian leaders with the tools they need for 21st Century ministry: use of Internet networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, Blogging and online media tools such as YouTube and robust email campaign systems.

Social networking is more than just using the latest new technology for the sake of looking hip or exciting, and it is certainly more than the latest seat filling gimmick.  It is about a commitment to extend God’s hospitality  –  and today's technology makes it truly easy for anyone to speak up, reach out and connect.

Workshop participants explore how to engage, enrich and expand community, as they:

  • Receive hands-on tutorials with Facebook, Twitter, blogging and YouTube
  • Learn to identify and hone the purposes for engaging social media as part of vital ministry
  • Begin to develop a social media strategy that fits individual contexts
  • Explore how to use technology more effectively in worship, education, and spiritual formation
  • Discuss the theological and ecclesiological implications of this age of social networking
  • Join the CPR Team and our Social Media consultants for these intensives.

We promise this will change your ministry!

Facilitated by Kimberly Knight - Kimberly Knight recently received her Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. She graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Religious Studies.  Prior to seminary she worked nearly five years as a pubic school activist in the city of Atlanta.  She brings to The Center for Progressive Renewal more than fifteen years of experience across a broad spectrum of technology settings including multimedia production and instructional technology. She currently serves as the pastor of an online congregation that has been gathering for nearly in the cyber-world of Second Life. Kimberly, her partner and their two children are active members of Kirkwood United Church of Christ in Atlanta, Georgia.

"Our group at the Connecticut Social Media Intensive this October came with a  wide range of skill levels, familiarity, and comfort with social media. Kimberly Knight brought a clear message to her presentation: the use of social media is about building relationships, and the point of learning more about it is to build stronger relationships among the people of God. That clarity reduced anxieties among the fearful and redirected the energies of the knowledgeable, so that everyone was able to take new steps forward together, even though it was a different step for each. Her depth of understanding, passion for ministry, and ebullient good humor combined to make a great weekend of learning and growth. I recommend it highly!"
